Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 June 2026
SettleBook ("the app", "we", "us") helps members of a shared house track
daily meals, expenses, deposits, and settle up together. This policy explains what
information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using
SettleBook you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. You sign in with Google. We receive your
name and email address from your Google account to create your profile. We do not
receive or store your Google password.
- House content you create. Meals, deposits, expenses (and who they
are shared with), chat messages, your role, and the house you belong to.
- Notification token. A Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token,
used only to deliver push notifications. It is removed when you turn notifications off.
- Diagnostics & usage. Aggregated, mostly anonymous app-usage
events (Firebase Analytics) and crash reports with technical device information
(Firebase Crashlytics) to keep the app stable.
- Advertising & attribution. If you install the app from one of
our advertisements, the Meta (Facebook) SDK collects your device's advertising
identifier and a small set of app events (for example, that the app was installed,
that you signed in, or that you created a house) so we can measure how well our
ad campaigns work. This is used for measurement and attribution only.
We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location, or payment
card details.
2. How we use your information
- To run the core features: meal/expense/deposit tracking and monthly settlement.
- To show members of your house each other's entries, balances, and chat messages.
- To send push notifications about house activity and messages (only if enabled).
- To diagnose crashes and improve reliability and performance.
- To measure the effectiveness of our advertising and understand how new
members find the app.
3. How your information is shared
- With your house members. People in the same house can see your name,
your meals, deposits, expenses, balances, and chat messages. This is the purpose of
the app.
- Service providers. We use Supabase (database,
authentication, and backend) and Google Firebase (sign-in, push
notifications, analytics, crash reporting) to operate the app. Your data is processed
on their infrastructure under their security and privacy terms.
- Advertising partner. We use Meta (Facebook) to run
and measure ad campaigns. The advertising identifier and the limited app events
described in section 1 are shared with Meta solely to attribute installs and measure
campaign performance.
- Legal. We may disclose information if required by law.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads inside the
app; the only advertising-related data sharing is the campaign measurement described
above.
4. Data retention
Your house entries are kept so the group's historical settlements stay accurate. If you
leave or are removed from a house, your past entries remain with that house for record-keeping,
but you no longer have access to it.
5. Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account in the app at
Profile → Delete Account. This removes your sign-in credentials and
personal contact details (email). To keep the group's books balanced, your historical
entries may be retained within the house in anonymized form (first name only). If you are
the only active member of a house, deleting your account deletes that entire house and all
of its data.
You may also request deletion by emailing us (see Contact). We will action verified
requests within 30 days.
6. Your choices
- Notifications. Turn push notifications on or off in
Profile → Notifications, or in your device settings.
- Account deletion. As described in section 5.
7. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and protected by access controls
so that only members of your house can read its data. No method of transmission or storage
is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
8. Children
SettleBook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and
we will delete it.
9. International data transfers
Your information may be stored and processed on servers operated by our service providers
in other countries. We rely on those providers' safeguards for such transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the
"Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the
revised policy.
